Licensing

Feel free to share but do not forget to link back.

Most of my photos are licensed using the Creative Commons NC-BY license. That means you are free to share, edit and reproduce them but you have to name me (Christoph Spiegl) and my site (CHRISSP.com).

I recommend writing this to attribute:

Photograph by Christoph Spiegl (http://CHRISSP.com)

But remember if you want to use my photos commercially: you have to get in touch with me.

In Short that licensing means for you:

You are free to:

  • to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work
  • to Remix — to adapt the work

Under the following conditions:

  • Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
  • NonCommercial — You may not use this work for commercial purposes.

With the understanding that:

  • Waiver — Any of the above conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder.
  • Other Rights — In no way are any of the following rights affected by the license:
    • Your fair dealing or fair use rights;
    • The author’s moral rights;
    • Rights other persons may have either in the work itself or in how the work is used, such as publicity or privacy rights.
  • Notice — For any reuse or distribution, you must make clear to others the license terms of this work. The best way to do this is with a link to this web page.

My Reasons for Licensing it that Way

First of all I think art is to be shared. And I want you to be able to share my art and spread it around the net. But at the same time it is about trust that you do not use my photos commercially without getting in touch with me first. I even trust you that much that I do not put any watermarks on my photos because I think that those look kinda ugly and are not really part of the art.
